Title: This Place is Dead
Focus: Wheatley
Warnings: Spoilers for everything past chapter 5 of the game.
Notes: Based on a comment that got into the prompt post at [community profile] portalkink bemoaning how the meme was going slowly with, "....dead. Or dying. This place is dying :(" So I wrote this up. It's only 250 words, and the only reason I'm posting it here is because I'm bored as hell and it seems a good idea. Later it probably won't, but right now I don't care.

The other AIs in the place kept pestering him.

This place is dead, they said. No it wasn’t! He would try and reason with them. This place is just a building, it can’t be dead, not literally. Not when we have things to do.

There’s no one here to care. There are no scientists. No workers. We haven’t had a possible client walk in here for centuries. Why can’t you get that through your thick head?

He’d ignored them, putting their chatter down as lesser programming that couldn’t comprehend his plans. There was someone around to care; the woman who diligently went through all his tests, flawlessly completing them all. As long as she kept at it, he’d be able to get Aperture Laboratories back on top. Hell, they might as well just name the place after him, he was doing so much that pathetic potato battery had never even considered before him. There were nanobots and guns that could bend space to the customer’s will, for crying out loud! Why had Aperture filed for bankruptcy with such marvels within it, anyway?

There was so much potential within this building, and he was going to unleash it to the unsuspecting world. Black Mesa would be a faint memory in everyone’s minds after this was all said and done.

He was hit with another wave of euphoria, signalling the end of a test and another step towards progress.

Oh yes, things were going well. Things were going very, very well.
